The Communications and External Affairs Manager is a senior role responsible for shaping, strengthening and safeguarding the reputation and public voice of Greater Melbourne Foundation. The role leads brand, communications, external affairs and advocacy positioning to advance the Foundation’s purpose, as outlined in Strategy 2030.
The role is accountable for strengthening reputation and relevance across key audiences, ensuring the Foundation is recognised as a trusted civic voice and leader in effective philanthropy for social justice and equity. It builds public understanding and trust in the Foundation, helping to create the conditions for participation in community philanthropy and growth of funds under management. The Narratives and Storytelling Lead uncovers, shapes and shares stories that connect community experience, emerging need and philanthropic impact. It develops compelling, human-centred stories that build awareness, deepen understanding of the issues impacting Greater Melbourne, and celebrate community-led change and the joy of giving.
The role brings Strategy 2030 to life through storytelling, making community need and lived experience visible. It strengthens connection between supporters, communities and the Foundation, and helps position the Foundation as a trusted, credible voice for Greater Melbourne, known for effective philanthropy and social justice. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator delivers digital communications and marketing activity that builds awareness, engagement and participation in community philanthropy. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with 2–4 years’ experience who is confident planning and executing digital content and campaigns. Reporting to the Communications and External Affairs Manager, the role drives marketing initiatives across the organisation – growing the Foundation's digital presence and bringing stories, campaigns and supporter communications to life through clear, engaging and audience-focused content.
The role works closely with the Communications and External Affairs Manager, Narratives and Storytelling Lead and the broader Engagement Team to ensure consistent delivery across all digital channels. The Acquisition and Supporter Engagement Coordinator is responsible for attracting and engaging new supporters and building the Foundation’s pipeline for community philanthropy. The role focuses on growing participation by designing and delivering supporter journeys that introduce people to the organisation, strengthen connection, and build momentum towards ongoing engagement and increased giving.
The role is accountable for creating meaningful engagement experiences that build trust, relevance and longterm commitment to community philanthropy. It helps people understand the issues impacting Greater Melbourne and the role philanthropy can play in addressing them, strengthening motivation and intent to give. The Executive Coordinator role is pivotal in enabling strong executive leadership, effective governance coordination and organisational alignment – ensuring the efficient, effective, and professional operation of the Office of the CEO. The role provides high-level executive coordination to the CEO; serves as the primary day-today liaison point for the Board and the Company Secretary service; and leads the coordination of organisational reporting.
The position also takes responsibility for coordinating priority organisation-wide projects as directed by the CEO, supporting strategic initiatives and continuous improvement across the Foundation.
