In 2023, the Prime Minister declared family violence as a national crisis. Family violence is the leading cause of people attending specialist homelessness services and an area of continued focus for Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. The Foundation continued to support projects and programs that provide women the agency and resources to stay safe and housed. In the last year, this includes Justice Connect’s online resource developed for Victorian renters who want to utilise new Victorian laws and write a personalised letter to their landlord about their safety and privacy needs. Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation funded a training program and standards for community housing providers to response to family violence within their tenancies. The Foundation also helped McAuley Community Services for Women to plan a new approach allowing women and children experiencing family violence to remain safe in their own home, rather than moving them into temporary hotel accommodation or hiding them in refuges.
